Last week, part of our state witnessed a spectacular celestial event, a total solar eclipse.  Now, start preparing for another spectacular event, as Halley’s comet will be heading our way in 2061-2062. Comets are akin to a big dirty snowball, composed of frozen gases, ice, and dust.  As a comet gets closer to the sun, it starts to vaporize and produces the long “fiery tail” that comets are famous for.  It also produces meteor showers.  Looking at the order of the universe, it is obvious this could not have come by chance.  Aside from the creation narrative in Genesis, Isaiah tells us the earth is round (Isaiah 40:22), and Job tells us the earth floats in space (Job 26:7).  This was long before scientists discovered the same truths.

We need to keep the victims of Hurricane Harvey in our prayers.  All storms are produced by the laws of nature God put in place.  Unfortunately, some storms can become violent, while others gently produce the water we need to exist.  Rehearsals for the children’s Christmas program will be starting in September, with the program scheduled for December 3rd.

Bro. Tim recounted the stories of Jesus healing a man with leprosy (Mk 1:40-45), and Jesus healing and forgiving a paralyzed man who was lowered through a hole in a roof (Mk 2:1-12).  Now known as Hansen’s disease, leprosy was a much feared and devastating disease in Jesus’ day.  Jesus even knew what the teachers of the law thought about Him forgiving the paralyzed man’s sin.  Jesus needed to establish the fact that He was the Son of God and that He had the power to both heal and forgive.
