Golden Valley Christian Church

A few years ago, a radio preacher, Harold Camping, of California, convinced his followers and anybody else who would believe him, that the end of the world and the Rapture would be on a certain day.  When that particular day arrived and nothing happened, Mr. Camping informed his listeners that he was “flabbergasted” and wondered what had happened.  Some of his followers, believing this prediction, had sold their belongings and dispensed of their savings in order to help promote this idea.  After this fiasco, some of the same followers wanted to sue Mr. Camping.  This is one reason people should read and know the message of the Bible.  Jesus has warned us that no one knows the day nor the hour of this event, except God (Mark 13:31-33).

Last Sunday was a special day for our morning worship service. The future generation of our church was in charge of the pre-sermon activities.  Our young people led the songs, the prayers, and (with the assistance of two of our adult leaders) even served communion.  These young people will one day take over the leadership of the church, and they are getting a head start with this kind of service.

Brother James’ message, taken from 1 Cor 15:1-8, started with a question, “Does What You Believe Really Matter?”  The answer to that is, of course, a resounding “Yes.”  One absolute thing, vital to all, is the belief that Jesus was resurrected.  These passages in First Corinthians tell us that Christ died for our sins, therefore, His resurrection is essential and had many eyewitnesses.  God has designed our standards and laws.  This plan included sending Jesus.  If He was not resurrected and not who we think He is, we are still in our sins.  Acts 2:38 tells us our sins were forgiven when we were baptized.  We are connected to one another by the Holy Spirit in our beliefs.  Our belief in Jesus and His resurrection is the cornerstone of our beliefs.

Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton.  Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30.  Our Wednesday evening Bible study is suspended for the summer.  Our minister is James McFarland (office phone # 660-890-0252), and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find a link to access our Facebook page.  We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.
