Have you ever wondered why oceans and seas are salty, yet rivers and streams are not?  The primeval seas were probably not very salty.  As time progressed, the freshwater rains broke up rocks, and the minerals in these rocks were carried by rivers and streams into the oceans and seas. Freshwater rain still flows into our rivers, so the minerals that rivers carry to the seas have built up through the ages.  It is estimated the rivers around the world carry about four billion tons of dissolved salt to the seas yearly.  Salt is a vital mineral, and the Bible has many verses about it.  Jesus tells us believers are “the salt of the earth” (Matt 5:13).  Jesus also tells us salt is good unless it loses its saltiness (Luke 14:34).

GVCC is once again grieved at losing one of our faithful members.  Condolences are sent to the family of Marcia Crosswhite, who passed into the arms of Jesus early last Sunday morning.  Marcy was a member of the GVCC Crafters and was faithful in attendance at church.  While we grieve, the angels are rejoicing in Heaven, welcoming a new believer.  Last Sunday, our dining room was filled for our “Italian” carry-in lunch.  Thanks to all who brought food for this delicious meal and to all who helped make it such a success. Deena Rosado read an amusing poem during the morning worship service. We appreciate all of those who do specials for the congregation.

Bro Tim discussed “two pictures” for us in the message.  One of the pictures was of Hell, where it will be a horrible place with darkness, weeping, and gnashing of teeth (Matt 8:12).  There will also be a lake of burning sulfur, and souls will be tormented day and night forever (Rev 20:10). Contrast that to the second picture, of Heaven, a place where there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain.  It will be a beautiful place to live forever (Rev 21:1-4).  God does not wish anyone to go to Hell.  That is why He sent His Son, that we may live forever (John 14:1-4).

The Bible challenge question:  What is it the Apostle Paul says there is no law against? (Gal 5:22-23)
