Golden Valley Christian Church

Recently, Bob Fenwick sang a beautiful song as our musical special.  This song, “The Unclouded Day,” was written by Josiah Kelley Alwood in 1879 and has been recorded by many musical artists throughout the years.  This was the first song sung in public by a very well-known musician.  At the age of 12, in his boyhood church and accompanied by his mother on the piano, Johnny Cash made his first public debut, singing “The Unclouded Day.”  This was acknowledged later by Cash in a video, singing the same song with his mother again accompanying him on the piano.  The Bible has many verses referring to clouds.  Some verses refer to clouds, providing rain to help mankind (Psalms 147:8).  However, there will be no need for clouds or rain in heaven, where God will provide for us.

We welcomed Bro Tim and Georgia back, after a short vacation to see their family in Texas.  A very nice donation from GVCC was sent to IDES to assist with Midwest Storm Relief.  Thanks to all who donated to this worthy cause.  The GVCC Crafters are still hard at work, meeting on Thursdays at 2:00 PM.

Bro Tim’s message, continuing with a “truth” series, was entitled “Benefits of Truth,” with scripture from Psalms 11:3.  Today, truth is under attack, with people denying the truths given by God.  People sometimes think there is an alternative to the truth, but this thought could not be more wrong.  There are major benefits by acknowledging God’s truth:  1) Truth can save us (John 14:6); 2) Truth can set us free (Romans 6:22); 3) Truth can unite us (Eph 4:3).  We are all different in many ways, but Jesus Christ brings us all together (Acts 4:12).

The Bible challenge question:  What happened to the guards after Peter escaped from prison? (Acts 12:18-19)
