If any month in the United States would be considered “Patriot Month,” it would certainly be July. Have you ever heard of the Loyal Nine and the true reason for the rebellion that gave liberty to this nation? The hated Stamp Act had been enacted, placing a tax on everything purchased. Most of the Loyal Nine were businessmen in Boston, enraged by these taxes. This small group eventually ended up as a much larger group, the “Sons of Liberty.” As a growing nation, consisting of thirteen colonies, the people were ready to discard the ropes binding them to the British. From this rebellion came the Declaration of Independence in 1776, and a war that changed the world. Another rebellion that changed lives in Biblical days was when Israel split into two nations, Israel and Judah (1 Kings 12:3-16).
The need for prayers continues as our prayer list grows longer. Some of our church family have had recent stays in the hospital; we pray God’s healing hand on all with health problems.
Bro Tim’s message was entitled “The Standard of Truth,” with scripture from Acts 17:22-27, 31. There is only one God, in whom truth is rooted, and only one way to God, which is through Jesus Christ. Truth is revealed in Jesus Christ, as the standard of truth that we are to follow. Jesus said if we know the truth, it will set us free (John 8:32). The Apostle Paul understood what the truth was in his letter to Timothy, when he referred to God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16).
