Recently, a couple who owns a large German Shepherd pup had a big scare.  While the couple was away at work, the dog reared up on the cabinet and grabbed a bottle of ibuprofen.  It chewed open the bottle and consumed a large quantity of the pills.  While this is a wonderful medicine for humans, it is toxic to dogs, even in a small amount, and can kill them.  The dog was taken to the animal hospital where the outcome was precarious.  Fortunately, this story ends well, with the dog making a full recovery, but it taught the couple a hard lesson.  The Bible is full of excellent advice on how to live a happy, abundant life.  A wise person will seek and follow that advice.

The theme of both our morning Bible study and worship service was “fasting.”  Bro. Tim’s scripture for this topic came from Matthew 6:6-18.  While fasting is not commanded by Jesus, it is very prevalent in the scriptures, being mentioned 123 times in the Bible.  The most notable incident is the fasting of Jesus for 40 days (Mt 4:1-11).  Fasting is done to please and honor God, but it must be done with the right attitude, which will then have spiritual and physical benefits.
