In another week, we will observe “Flag Day.”  On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution describing how the U.S. flag was to be made.  This resolution states, “the flag of the United States be thirteen alternate stripes of red and white” and that “the Union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation.”  This flag has been modified twenty-six times since that resolution.  The last time was in 1960, when Hawaii was admitted to the Union and the fiftieth white star was added to the blue field.  Puerto Rico has, for some time, been voting to become the fifty-first star.  So, it is possible we will see another change to our flag.  The tribes of the Old Testament also had flags, or, as they were called, “standards” or “banners” (Numbers 2:2).

Last Sunday, the angels were rejoicing with us as another one of our attendees gave the good confession and was baptized.  It is with great joy that we welcome Stacy Young and her mother, Cindy Young, into our church fellowship.  Thanks to all who contributed to the bean collection for West Central Christian Service Camp, in La Monte. Forty-five gallons of green beans and twenty-nine gallons of chili beans were delivered to the camp.  Needless to say, this was deeply appreciated by the camp personnel.

“Drawing Near at the Mountain” was the title of Bro Tim’s message, with scripture from Exodus, chapters 19 and 20.  This was Moses’ encounter with God at Mt. Sinai and the giving of the Ten Commandments.  After the people heard all of the noise and saw smoke in the mountain, they were afraid and did not want to go near Him (Exodus 20:18-21).  God wants a one-on-one relationship with each of us.  He wants us to be His people, but He will not force anyone to do this.  Accepting Him has got to be a personal act and from the heart.

The Bible challenge question:  What was the sin of Shelomith’s son, for him to be stoned to death? (Lev 24:10-16)
