Golden Valley Christian Church

Memorial Day, originally set to honor our military dead, is now over for 2018.  The true origin of who held the first Memorial Day is debated, but it goes back to honoring the Civil War veterans.  The United States Civil War was the costliest war, in terms of US lives.  Approximately 620,000 people lost their lives in that dreadful conflict.  The combined loss of American lives in WWI and WWII was approximately 521,915.  People sometimes get Memorial Day and Veterans Day confused.  Memorial Day honors the soldiers that were killed in wars, and Veterans Day honors all of the US military veterans.  The Bible tells that we are to observe another memorial service.  Many churches, including the Golden Valley Christian Church, do this each and every Sunday.  It is called the Lord’s Supper, Communion, or the Eucharist.  It is to be in remembrance of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Luke 22:19).

Vacation Bible School is starting at GVCC this Sunday evening, June 3rd, from 6:30-8:30, for 2-year-olds through the 12th grade.  GVCC was saddened again with a death among our church family.  The congregation sends its condolences to the family of Cheri Gregory at the loss of her stepfather.

In honor of Memorial Day, Bro Tim’s message, “Remembering,” with scripture from 2 Timothy 1:3-5.  Bro Tim reminded us we should be looking back, remembering the loved ones we have lost.  We should also look out for our fellow man; we need to care about those who are struggling and those who cannot care for themselves.  Lastly, we are to look up and honor God, as he gives us so many good things.  We should thank God for great and small gifts and especially for our salvation through Jesus Christ.  We should all be good and faithful servants.
