Golden Valley Christian Church

Most of us have heard of the “seven deadly sins,” but did you know that nowhere in the Bible are they recorded in a list, or called deadly?  The early church listed seven sins--envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth (laziness), and wrath—as deadly and unforgivable, but the Bible does not say they are unforgivable.  Proverbs 6:16-19 is a list of sins that God hates, and Galatians 5:19-21 warns us against others.  All of us have sinned, but through Jesus, we can have salvation.  However, there is one sin that is unforgivable:  Complete rejection of God, known as “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit,” is a deadly sin and definitely unforgivable (Matthew 12:31-32).

Last Sunday morning, the adult Bible classes united to start a joint study of the book, “Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life,” by Donald S. Whitney.  This book is a study for Christians to develop spiritual strength and persistence in their daily lives by God’s grace, prayer, fellowship, the Lord’s Supper, living a Christian life, and the purpose of Godliness.  Chris Rush, one of the elders in the Golden Valley Christian Church, is teaching these Biblical truths.

“Why Study the Bible?” was the title of Bro. Tim’s message.  The Bible is a unique book, taking approximately 1500 years to put together by thirty men in three different languages, yet all is in complete unity.  Discovering and delving into the Word deeply takes time.  Knowing the scripture is like giving spiritual food to the soul.  Our goal is not just to know the Bible, but to know God.
