As time goes by, terrible events just become “history” to the following generations.  An example of this is the “Great Depression” of the 1930’s.  This horrid event lasted a decade, starting with the stock market crash in October, 1929, and ending with the beginning of World War II.  The depression was exacerbated by the drought of the ‘30’s, known as the Dust Bowl, which also was the cause of the great migration from the Midwest to California.  Along with the second world war, there have been very few events that have had such a negative impact on this nation.  Droughts are nothing new, and the Bible has many passages about them.  Perhaps 1 Kings 17:1 and Ruth 1:1 would be two of the more familiar ones.

In between rains, God gave us a beautiful Sunday to come together to worship Him last week.  It was a Sunday of blessings for GVCC.  Laura Mendenhall and her daughter, Sarah, gave us a very nice presentation of the Clinton Christian Academy, which Sarah attends.  God blessed us with another couple who came forward to place their membership with us.  Alex, Donnie, and Ken Jones (playing stand-up bass, guitar, and mandolin, respectively) sang “Wings of a Dove” as our musical special.  We thank and praise God for all of these blessings.

Ephesians 4:11-16 was the scripture for Bro Tim’s message, entitled “May Be Built Up.”  A Christian should always be growing in their faith.  If our faith is not strong enough, we may yield to the temptations in our lives.  Jesus, after forty days and nights of fasting, was tempted by Satan.  With His physical body at its weakest, Jesus was able to withstand the temptations, citing scriptures.  We, too, will be tempted, and by our growth in knowledge of what God wants from us, we will be able to stand firm.  We must be growing in our faith each and every day.
