Golden Valley Christian Church

The Golden Valley Christian Church held services last Sunday, with help from snow shovelers, Chris Rush and Chris Tucker.  Fresh snow is beautiful, but it certainly plays havoc with streets, highways, and sidewalks.  A Ladies Bible Study is being held on Wednesday nights, at 7 PM, in the church building, weather permitting.

Bro. Tim's message reflected on the return of the Jewish nation from Babylon after 70 years of captivity and exile.  The reason they were allowed to return to Jerusalem was to rebuild the temple and re-establish worship of God in His land.  At first, following the return, the people were enthusiastic and diligent in completing the mission, but soon after they got started, they met opposition from the local people and lost interest in completing the job.  The temple remained only partially finished for sixteen years while the people built their own homes and businesses.  But they were not happy, nor did they prosper, because they had put God's first job of rebuilding the temple on the back burner, making it second or third on their priority list  Through the prophet Haggai, God called out the Jewish people for mixing up their priorities.  He told them to get their priority straight, and God would bless them.

Bro. Tim challenged us to exam our lives and state of our nation to be sure we are putting God's priorities before our own.  Are we missing out on the blessings of God as part of His kingdom because we have lost our enthusiasm for service to God and His world?  God's blessing will be peace, comfort, and joy in a world full of all kinds of trouble and worry.  Do we have our priorities right?  The theologian and author C.S. Lewis once wrote, "Put the first things first and we get the second things thrown in; put second things first and we lose both the first and second things."  History has proven this wisdom many times over; are we repeating history?

The Bible challenge question is:  "How did the Sadducees and Pharisees differ in beliefs?'"  (Acts 23:8)
