Golden Valley Christian Church

Most people have heard of the big bandleader, Tommy Dorsey, but there is another Thomas Dorsey that deserves recognition, as well.  Thomas Andrew Dorsey was the son of a revivalist preacher.  Thomas became known as “the father of black gospel music.”  While in St. Louis, singing for a revival, he received a telegram informing him his wife had died.  Rushing to his home in Chicago, he found that not only his wife, but his baby boy had also died.  Crushed with grief, Thomas went into a tailspin, angry with God.  A few days later, he had a strange feeling of peace.  It was then he composed the beautiful gospel song, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”  Even in grief, when sometimes we turn away from God, He still remains with us.  Another well-known song composed by Thomas is “Peace in the Valley.”

Golden Valley Christian Church enjoyed a carry-in meal last Sunday.  As usual, there was a bountiful supply of food.  Thanks to all who prepared for the event and those who cleaned up afterward.  The Missouri Convention will be at Tan-Tar-A, March 31-April 1st.

During our morning worship, Georgia Randall sang a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace.”  Bro. Tim’s message continued with study of the fifth chapter of Galatians, the book of Apostle Paul’s continuous admonition to the church to remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus.  He gave a dire warning to the church to beware of turning back to the law of Moses.  In this chapter, Paul commands the people to “love your neighbor,” and concludes with the fruit of the spirit.
