Golden Valley Christian Church

With all of the discord going on today, many people think, “How can things get worse in this world?”  A few years ago, an article was published, condemning the youth and all of the terrible things going on in this country.  At the bottom of the article was a line reading, “The above was copied from an 1890 article.”  There has been strife and discord in every generation since the beginning of time.  These types of misdeeds were going on in Isaiah’s time.  As a prophet of God, to the people of Judah, Isaiah warned them of their lying, cheating, stealing, evil plans, and even murder.  We need to take Isaiah’s warning seriously (Isaiah 59:3-8).

It was a great day in our church services last Sunday, but a bit of a shock to come out of the building to a blizzard-like snow.  We welcomed several visitors and were happy that some of our previously-ill were able to be with us again.  The Wednesday night Bible study continues, meeting at the church building at 7 PM.  Even though it is mid-winter, our VBS leaders are making plans, and will soon be announcing the date for this event.

Bro Tim’s message, from 1 Samuel 8:7, was entitled “Whose Law?”  God has given His laws for Christians to follow.  One law is to not steal, and Bro Tim used the story of King Ahab, Naboth, and Jezebel to illustrate this point.  When Naboth refused to sell property to King Ahab, his evil wife devised a scheme to have Naboth killed, so that King Ahab could claim the land.  The Israelites had asked God to give them a king so they could be like all the neighboring countries.  Even after God told them what would happen if they did have a king, the people still wanted one.  God’s laws are to protect us, and we are to follow them.

The Bible challenge question:  What evil act was done by King Jehoiakim to the scrolls that God had directed Jeremiah to dictate? (Jer 36:23)
