Golden Valley Christian Church

Have you ever heard anyone say, “I don’t go to church because all they want is money?”  Of course, it takes money to keep a church alive, just as it takes money to keep a household or a business going.  But receiving money is certainly not the goal of the church.  There is a little story told about a church that was collecting money for a missions fund.  When the collection plate reached a very wealthy attendee of the church, the man passed it to the usher saying, “I don’t believe in missions.”  Without a blink of the eye, the usher replied, “Then you take something out; this collection is for unbelieving heathens.”  Everything we have has been given to us by God.  Just remember, we cannot outgive God.

So far, the month of February has been very kind to us, with moderate weather.  It was real joy, last Sunday, to have so many of the seats in our sanctuary filled.  Mary Tuggle read a humorous poem, entitled “I Ain’t Dead Yet,” as our morning special.  The church calendar is starting to fill up again with future events.  We have so much to be thankful for.  Our God is so good.

“Love” was the basis for Bro. Tim’s message.  Jesus loved us so much, He went to the cross for us.  Jesus’ message to us is to love one another and to pray for others, even for those considered to be our enemies.  Using the narrative of Cain and Abel, we were shown how Cain represented those who live in hatred and vileness.  Abel was representative of those who live in the light of God’s love, obeying His commands.  We should not just talk our love, but show it in action.  “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)

The Bible challenge question:  The town of Nain is only mentioned once in the Bible. What event took place there? (Luke 7:11-15)
