Golden Valley Christian Church

A riddle for children is, “Which month in our calendar year has twenty-eight days?”  So, is the answer February?  No.  All twelve months have twenty-eight days.  Some may think of February as being a boring month, but it is amazing just how much goes on in February!  Among other events, February has Groundhog Day, birthdays of two of our most revered presidents (Washington and Lincoln), and don’t forget the Super Bowl.  It is one of the snowiest months of the winter, with an old folklore saying, “If February gives much snow, A fine summer it doth foreshow.”  With the snow Clinton has had this month, perhaps we will have a great summer!  February also is host to American Heart Month, Great American Pie Month, and Canned Foods Month.  So, we see that February is not a boring month.  Some may find the Bible boring, but in actuality, the Bible is full of events, tragedies, happiness, and love.  The story of God’s love for us, even sending His son to die for our redemption, is overwhelming (John 3:16-17).

During last Sunday’s service, Chris Tucker pointed out that fourteen of our attendees have birthdays and one couple is observing a wedding anniversary in February.  Happy birthday, and congratulations to all of these folks!  We were happy to learn that James McFarland has agreed to be our new minister.  He and his family will move to Clinton sometime around the first of June.  In the meantime, he will be coming to Clinton once a month to get to know the community better and bring our Sunday morning message.  The GV Charity Crafters meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM, and our Wednesday evening Bible study meets at 7:00 PM.

Bro Elmer’s message came from Acts 2:42-47, and revealed the activities of the Apostles and Disciples after Jesus’ death.  There were basically six things this group of people devoted themselves to:  Teaching, fellowship (sharing a mission, and even sharing their possessions), breaking of bread, prayer, love, and praising God.  This is an example for followers of Jesus to continue to observe.  The Apostles warned the people about following false teachers and false instruction.  Unfortunately, there were people then, as there are today, that only hear what they want to hear.  The Bible gives us a clear picture of what God expects of us as Christians.

Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton.  Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30.  Our interim minister is Elmer Fuller, and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find links to access our Facebook page and YouTube sermons.  We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.
