It is so sad to watch the death and destruction that takes place today, between Israel and the Arab countries.  Hardly a day goes by that some bad news isn’t reported in that area.  It is also sad that a woman, many years ago, was the instigator of this chaos today.  This conflict started because Sarai (Sarah) did not trust God’s promise to give Abram a son with her.  Instead, she insisted Abram (later called Abraham) have a child by her Egyptian handmaiden, Hagar.  The ultimate problem came when that child, Ishmael, and Hagar were sent away because of Sarah’s jealousy.  God then promised Ishmael would be made “into a great nation” (Gen 21:17-18).  By now, we should all realize God keeps His promises.

Ice can be made into beautiful things, but not on roads and streets.  Last Sunday was such a day, with ice coating the streets.  Many churches closed their doors that day, but GVCC only dismissed the morning Bible study.  There were a number of our group that braved the streets to attend the 10:30 service.  The Wednesday Bible study continues at 7:00 PM, and the Charity Craft group meets on Thursdays at 5:30 PM.  GVCC will be holding a revival March 11-13.  Everyone is cordially invited to attend any of these events.

Revelation 2:5 was the scripture Bro Tim cited, starting his message, “Stepping Stones.”  The young people helped Bro Tim in making visuals to illustrate the relationship between God and man, and God and the State.  The purpose was to remind all of us how our founding fathers established laws based on Biblical principles.  Through the years, God’s laws have been replaced by man’s laws.  The Biblical principles are gradually being removed from the laws that govern our nation today.  If God’s laws are replaced, how long will our nation be able to stand?

The Bible challenge question:  Where did Jesus perform His first miracle? (John 2:11)
