Golden Valley Christian Church

January is a month full of events we may have forgotten:  At the state of the union address on January 6, 1941, President Roosevelt defined the four freedoms worth fighting for--freedom of speech and worship, and freedom from want and fear.  On January 30, 1933, Adolph Hitler became the sole leader of Nazi Germany; he was responsible for the death of many millions of people when he tried to exterminate all the Jews from Europe. On January 20, 1918, following the Russian revolution, all church property in Russia was confiscated, and all religious instruction in schools abolished. Sadly, persecution of Christians still takes place in this world, the worst being in the Middle East and Africa.  Christians must stay strong in their faith, never forgetting that God is still in control.  (I Cor 16:13)

GVCC sends condolences to the Tucker family in the loss of their loved one, Vivian Tucker.  Our loss is Heaven’s gain, but Vivian will be sadly missed; we grieve with John, Chris, and the whole family.  Judy Harris read names, and Paula Phillips lit candles, in a beautiful memorial time, honoring those who have been a big part of GVCC and have passed away.  This Sunday, continuing the celebration of our tenth anniversary, remarks will be made by people who have served in the past, with a noon meal following the worship service.  Let’s all pray we will not be hindered by another snowfall like last weekend.

“Before Us” was the title, with scripture from Hebrews, chapters 11-13, for last Sunday’s message.  Bro Tim recounted faithful people from the Bible.  Enoch was one that God took immediately to Heaven.  In faith, Abraham left his homeland, not knowing where God would be leading him.  The race in life is not always easy.  God doesn’t tell us why this happens, but encourages us to finish in faith, where a better place will be waiting.  (Heb 11:40)

The Bible challenge question:  When Lazarus died, what did some say Jesus should have done? (John 11:37)
