Golden Valley Christian Church

In our world today, teenagers are sometimes seen as rude and only interested in their own wants and needs. However, there are many stories of teenagers that are heroic. At Sacramento Valley High School, a mother, there to pick up her daughter, hit another car. In panic, she reversed the car, backing up over her daughter and trapping her under it. The varsity baseball team was in practice when they heard the desperate screaming. The team took off for the parking lot, surrounded the car and lifted it so that the girl could be pulled free. She was immediately sent to the hospital. The team’s coach later told how proud he was of his team for this heroic act. The Bible tells of another young man who helped his country. Many scholars think David was around fifteen years of age when he killed the Philistine giant, Goliath (1 Samuel 17).

The youth have begun rehearsals for their December 5th Christmas program. Remember to help with our two Christmas projects: Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and “Jello” gelatin or pudding for Christmas Cheer. The GV Charity Crafters meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM, and Bible Study is on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.

GVCC was fortunate last Sunday to have Dr. Billy Strother, from Central Christian College of the Bible, in Moberly, Missouri. The topic of Dr. Strother’s message was the story Jesus told of the ten bridesmaids who were waiting to meet the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-13). Dr. Strother, using a great deal of humor, made a powerful point in the difference between the bridesmaids. Five of the ladies were extremely intelligent, filling their lamps with oil and bringing extra oil, and the other five were “morons,” even failing to fill their lamps. While the five “morons” were elsewhere, trying to purchase oil, the bridegroom came. Actually, this story is a metaphor of the return of Christ, telling all of us to be ready at any given time.
