Have you ever thought about things in our area that are so essential to us, yet we just take them for granted?  Plain old water is one of these essentials.  We don’t give a second thought about opening the faucets and letting the water run freely.  Yet, in some parts of the world, water is a very scarce commodity.  This was especially noted during Biblical days.  One Bible researcher did a search for passages in the Bible about water.  He came up with at least 722 references.  Water was necessary for the usual things we need water for, but it is very significant for other reasons.  The Bible tells us that water also refers to our spiritual life.  John tells us, in Chapter 4, that Jesus says the water He gives us will become “. . . a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:10-14 NIV) There are at least 721 more passages about water in the Bible; maybe we should search for those passages ourselves.

Last Sunday, several adults supervised the youth of our church in packing thirty-five shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  We thank God for all of these youngsters that are learning about Jesus and love for others.  This coming Sunday will be our annual congregational business meeting, which will take place after our holiday lunch carry-in.  All members are encouraged to attend this meeting.

Bro Tim’s message was entitled “A Great Debt,” with scripture from Luke 7:36-50.  Bro Tim used the story of the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears and dried them with her hair, while Simon, a Pharisee, was judging her.  Jesus confronted Simon with the parable of the two debtors and their reaction to each of their debts being forgiven.  We all have debts of various kinds that sometimes may have to be forgiven.  God’s gift of forgiveness is for all who accept and believe in Him.
