Do you think it’s ok to tell a little white lie, or maybe a half lie, to get out of trouble?  Abraham did, when he asked his wife, Sarah, to tell the Pharoah that she was Abraham’s sister (Genesis 12:10-13).  Well, Sarah was his half-sister, but she was to conveniently forget that Abraham was also her husband.  Or do you think it’s ok for someone to commit murder?  King David did—well, not officially, but when his first plan failed to correct his adulterous affair (2 Samuel 11:6-11), David came up with another plan.  This plan was a little more sinister (2 Samuel 11:14-17).  So, technically, a jury would probably find David guilty of murder.  Do you think God was happy with what these two devout men did?  Read Proverbs 6:16-19, and you will find that He hates liars and murderers.  God hates the sin, but loves the sinner, if they love Him.  That is why He sent Jesus, knowing we will sin, but by believing in Jesus, we will still have a chance for eternal life (John 3:16-18).

This Sunday, November 14th, Richard Blake, Executive Director of Christian Prison Ministry of Mid-America, will speak at GVCC.  Remember, everyone is welcome to join the GV Charity Crafters at 10:00 AM on Tuesdays and Bible study at 7:00 PM on Wednesdays.  The youth of the church will put on a Christmas program on December 5th, so in preparation there will be a dress rehearsal on Sunday, November 14th, from 4-5 PM.  Don’t forget to bring “jello” gelatin or instant pudding boxes for Project Christmas Cheer and articles for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.

Unfortunately, there are fights and quarrels—even in churches.  Bro Elmer discussed this problem, using the words from James 4:1-12.  James gives the reasons for such behavior as not getting what we want and our desire to basically have our own way.  James slammed people, calling them adulterous.  This meaning was akin to the way the ancient people left the true God, seeking the false Gods of other nations.  James is very clear in telling us, Christians should not slander one another and not judge our neighbor.  We are not God, and it is only God that has the right to judge (James 4:11-12).
