Golden Valley Christian Church

A children’s Sunday School teacher told a story about an incident that happened in her class one Sunday.  While telling her class a story from the Bible, she noticed a little girl drawing, paying no attention to the story.  The teacher stopped and asked the little girl what she was drawing.  Without even looking up, the little girl continued drawing and said, “I’m drawing a picture of God.”  The teacher paused a moment and then told the child, “But no one knows what God looks like.”  Without blinking an eye, the little girl responded, “In a minute, when I am done, they will.”  While this is a cute story, there are pictures that people have tried to depict what God might look like.  Moses asked to see God while on the mountain, but God told him no one could see His face and live (Exodus 33:20).  There are a few others in the Bible that have claimed to see God.  Jacob claimed to have wrestled with God, but if so, God was in the form of a man (Gen 32:30).  But Jesus does say there will be those who will see God (Matt 5:8).

Maya Daughenbaugh and Abrielle Jones reported that it is time to start gathering articles for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  The youngsters assist with the packing of the boxes, so please, let’s help them fill at least thirty-nine boxes this year.  The GV Charity Crafters meet at 10:00 AM on Tuesdays; Bible Study and prayers for our minister search is at 7:00 PM on Wednesdays.  Recently, we said our final “goodbyes” to one of our faithful members, Wanda Sperry, who has been with us from the very opening day of GVCC.  We send our condolences to her family.  Even though we will miss her, we know the angels are rejoicing.

Bro Elmer continued his messages from the book of James.  In the second chapter, we are warned not to practice favoritism in our church.  A church should be a sanctuary for all people, not just the nicely dressed, rich, or influential.  We are warned that if we do, we are sinning.  People tend to think there is a difference in sinning, some sins being worse than other sins.  This may be true in human minds, but not in God’s (James 2:10).  There is one commandment called the royal law, and it is the second most important commandment of all (James 2:8).  If we follow that commandment, we will have less problems with sinning.

Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton.  Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30.  Our interim minister is Elmer Fuller, and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find links to access our Facebook page and YouTube sermons.  We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.
