Golden Valley Christian Church

The calendar now says October is here.  This is a month that marks the beginning of many festivals, leading up to Christmas.  With October on the calendar, the remaining months of this year will seem to flee.  Autumn will soon be displaying its beautiful colors and crisp temperatures.  In Missouri, we are fortunate to see all four seasons and the beauty God has provided for each of those seasons. Although each season has drawbacks, we still marvel at God’s handiwork (Gen 8:22).

Our church calendar seems to be filling up with all of the activities on it.  The congregation is in the process of collecting items for “Operation Christmas Child,” with Melynne Jones in charge.  We have two home studies of the book of James, and our Sunday evening service is studying the book of Jeremiah.  The Sunday night youth group is growing in numbers and also in knowledge of the Bible. The GVCC Crafters are still working on shawls and have already given several away.  We are also in the process of preparation for our 10th anniversary celebration, which will be next January.  Thankfully, a growing church is a busy church, and we give the glory to God.

During our worship service last Sunday, Laura Sisney and Jan Barrows blessed the congregation with a beautiful duet, singing “He Hideth My Soul.”  You can hear this lovely song on the GVCC Facebook page.  Bro Tim’s message came from James, chapter two.  Entitled “Favoritism and Faith,” Bro Tim recounted James’ words that we must not show favoritism because we are brothers and sisters in Christ.  Instead, we should treat others as we would like to be treated.  There is nothing wrong with having wealth, but wealth alone will not give you salvation.  Works alone will not bring salvation either, so we must put our faith in action.  James tells us that “faith without works is dead.”  (James 2:14-17)

The Bible challenge question:  What was the name of the evil spirit Jesus talked to in the region of Gerasenes? (Mark 5:1-13)
