Golden Valley Christian Church

The name, Albert E Brumley, may not be familiar to you, but his songs certainly should be.  Mr. Brumley was raised on a cotton farm in Oklahoma; later in life, he moved to Powell, Missouri.  One day, when he was picking cotton in a hot field, he began composing a song that would become very popular. He wrote about escaping the toil of the cotton field, but also, a personal hope of eternal life through Jesus, in the song, “I’ll Fly Away.”  Mr. Brumley composed over eight hundred southern gospel songs.  A few of his songs include: “This World Is Not My Home,” “Turn Your Radio On,” “Jesus, Hold My Hand.” Christians are encouraged to sing (Eph 5:19; Col 3:16)!

Bro Tim and Georgia hosted a wiener roast at their home last Sunday evening.  Despite the chilly weather, the event was well attended, and all reported a great time.  This Saturday will be an outdoor work day at the church building, starting at 9 AM.  We thank the Melling family for donating many books to the church, from the late Charles and Marjorie Mellings’ library.

Last Sunday morning, we were blessed by a long overdue solo from Georgia Randall, who sang a beautiful old hymn, “Whispering Hope.”  “What Is True?” was the title of Bro Tim’s message, and one truth is Satan’s goal to destroy us.  Satan and some thinkers today do not want us to believe that God even exists.  Even nature proves the existence of God.  Bro Tim told about a classroom in which a professor asked students to offer evidence that a particular chair in the room did not exist.  Most students wrote lengthy replies.  The only student to receive an A wrote, “What chair?”  Faith is the cornerstone of the Christian’s beliefs (Heb 11:6).
