Be very wary of a “tale” told to you by someone, who heard it from “someone else,” if it doesn’t sound just right.  Abraham Lincoln had a riddle he would ask people: “If a man were to call the tail of a dog a leg, how many legs would the dog have?”  Many people answered, “Five.”  “Wrong,” Mr. Lincoln would say. “The answer is still four.”  Calling the tail a “leg” does not make it one.  Repeating an inaccurate story over and over, does not make it true, and can cause pain and distress.  (Prov 18:8)

The GVCC family enjoyed a wiener roast (cooked on a grill, due to the ban burn) at the Randall home last Sunday evening.  Thanks go to Georgia and Tim for hosting this delightful event.  A new 5-week women’s Bible study commenced on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.  All women are invited to attend.  Bible Study on the Chronological Life of Christ continues on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.  It will soon be time to pack the Operation Christmas Child boxes, so don’t forget to bring gifts for this endeavor.

Bro James’ message continued with the miracles Jesus performed while on earth.  Scripture was taken from the eleventh chapter of John, with the focus on the resurrection of Lazarus.  The two sisters, Mary and Martha, along with their brother, Lazarus, were good friends of Jesus.  When Jesus heard of Lazarus’ death, he was about a day’s journey to Bethany, Lazarus’ home.  Waiting four days before traveling to the tomb, the body of Lazarus would have been deteriorating. Jesus waited deliberately to make this trip.  This illness and the raising of Lazarus was “for God’s glory, so that God’s Son would be glorified through it” (V 4).  This act caused many people to put their faith in Jesus (V 45).  (John 2:23)
